Guide to Obtain Security License

Individuals in NYS who do not qualify for a waiver must do the following: 

1. Apply to a security guard program who offer trainings for the 8 hour pre assignment training and 16 hour OJT training. 

2. The Guard must complete the required course material and pass the exams after each training class.

3. The guard must complete the NYS Security Guard Application the following needs to be attached:

Copy of 8 hour Pre-Assignment Certification

Receipt of your Electronic Fingerprints from an approved state vendor

$36 Money Order made to the NYS Department of State 

Cost/Fees: 

8 hour Pre-Assignment Certification ($75.00)

16 hour OJT ($175.00)

Receipt of your Electronic Fingerprints from an approved state vendor ($101.75)
